Welcome to Conejo Valley Direct Primary Care

Dear Future Patient,

Below you can read my official bio. But I want to take a moment to write to you personally about why I decided to leave my previous large corporate medical office - it wasn’t good for patients, it wasn’t good for doctors, but it was good for administrators and insurance companies. That was not why I wanted to become a doctor, and it was a big part of the frustration patients experience in our medical system. After ten years, and the support of my wife, I opened my own private practice. I practice medicine with my patients as it was intended to be - one doctor, one patient. One room and privacy, trust and access that cannot be replicated by a large health care system. It is a breath of fresh air and I invite you to join me.

No co-pays, no deductibles.

No secretaries or medical assistants.

No waiting, no wait lists, no scheduling months in advance.

You have my personal cell phone, my office address. I can access your previous records and can make all the necessary referrals, orders and prescriptions.

You have plenty of time not to be rushed, will feel heard, valued and respected by a true professional.

Sincerely,

David Gunn, MD, MFA

Embark on a journey of healing and well-being guided by a compassionate physician that values your health above all else. Dr. Gunn’s commitment to excellence in general medicine, preventative cardiology, and recovery from substances and alcohol spans across all age groups - adults, teens, men, women, and children alike.

Previously an associate professor of medicine for UCLA, he taught medical students the art of the physical exam, taking a thorough history and how to think critically about what they observed. He directed the third year clinical rotation in family medicine, and developed a fourth year advanced clinical elective teaching soon-to-be doctors the art of “real outpatient medicine”. He has been awarded recognitions from physician organizations , and has published original medical research on a variety of health related topics, including the prevention of heart attacks, recovery from alcoholism and the treatment of various common and uncommon medical conditions.

Initially, Dr. Gunn decided to pursue medicine after working with refugees from Afghanistan and witnessing the impact of medical care. He attended the University of Oregon, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Music, while also studying computer science and clarinet performance. He then earned a Masters of Fine Arts in Electronic Music and Recording Media at Mills College in Oakland, California. After pursuing a technology career in Silicon Valley at Leapfrog Toys, Dr. Gunn studied medicine at the University of California, Davis. He completed his family medicine residency in Redding, California, and served the population of Shasta County at a Top 1% Federally Qualified Health Center. He saw first hand the harmful effects of the opioid crisis, and saw the possibility for recovery in patients who couldn’t see that for themselves. He has helped hundreds of patients improve their lives by getting off opioids, benzodiazepines and other addictive substances. Proficient in Spanish, Dr. Gunn's clinical interests include preventing heart attacks and cancers, countering healthcare anxiety, and helping patients recover from alcoholism, nicotine and dependency on prescription drugs.

He is married to Dr. Nazanin Gunn, who practices in Thousand Oaks. Together, they have four children. His hobbies include DIY home projects and cooking.
